Q&A with Steffi Tupe
A conversation with Steffi Tupe, the Toronto-based filmmaker behind ‘Two Ladies’.
When you decided to make this short film, where did you start?
I decided to make this short after reading James Joyce's short story Two Gallants from Dubliners. It inspired me to write and make this film, but about two ladies.
What kind of hurdles do you face as a filmmaker working in short film?
For this film, it was cold weather. It was freezing cold during the shoot and I felt really bad for my actors. Of course, money is always a hurdle, in that there's never enough of it. We stole the subway location because I was afraid it would be expensive but looking back I think it's because I didn't have a producer and didn't want to figure out how to get a permit.
What projects are you working on next, and how can people who are interested best support or share that work?
I just finished another short film called Margo which I am now submitting it to festivals. People can follow me on Vimeo. They can also share this work too! Out of the three films I have made in the past this is still my favourite one!
