Being a director is not easy.
I have worked very hard to get to the point where I am comfortable calling myself such. But it is worth it. The energy I feel during pre-production, on set, in the editing room, and everywhere between and after sustains me.
After graduating Dartmouth College, I jumped into filmmaking on the camera crew of a small Feature. Over the next several years I worked in the camera department on TV Shows, Major Features, Commercials, and Documentaries. Being able to see some of the best and brightest in the industry ply their craft on a daily basis is an invaluable education that I carry with me every time I step onto set.
I would say my favorite aspect of filmmaking is that it is adaptable by its very nature. Therefore, I believe that it is the responsibility of the director to openly tackle each project’s unique set of challenges because they are what lead you to the essence of the film. I pride myself on being able to work alongside my cast and crew to find that essence and suit my approach to its demands. Bringing my ideas and experiences to the table creates a collaboration amongst me, the people I’m working alongside, and the subject itself. The result is singularly invigorating.
