Dianne Bellino

Dianne Bellino makes short films which are unexpected fictions, with an intimate, complex tone.

Her films have screened at festivals including Sundance, SXSW, and AFI Fest and released to enthusiastic audiences by curated platforms Vimeo Staff Picks, Short of the Week, NoBudge, Omeleto, and Fandor.  Dianne’s soon to be released live-action narrative short STRAWBERRY SHAKE stars Grace Glowicki, winner of a Sundance Special Jury Award for Outstanding Performance.

Dianne’s animated short THE ITCHING (made with animator Adam Davies) premiered at Sundance 2016 where Dianne was awarded the Debra Hill Film Grant by Women in Film LA, given to a filmmaker “whose work represents a singular vision and ability to think beyond the normal conventions of filmmaking.”  THE ITCHING went on to screen at over 60 film festivals worldwide, winning 12 awards.

Dianne’s films have been supported by grants from the New York State Council on the Arts and Boomerang Fund for the Arts, as well as by artist residencies at the MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, and Ucross.  Prior to making her own films, Dianne worked in the film/television industry (notably as assistant to director Harmony Korine on Julien Donkey-Boy) and created cover artwork for indie rock bands (with photographs published in Interview, Dazed, New Musical Express).

Dianne teaches filmmaking at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, where she was awarded a 2020 faculty grant.

I love to film things, tell stories, and read on the subway. I'm pretty sure blue whales are my power animal.
