Anu Valia

Anu Valia is a writer, director, and actor who has produced videos for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, MTV, IFC, CollegeHumor, Vox Media, Refinery29, NYLON Magazine, Above Average, and more.

Her work at CollegeHumor has won a Bronze Telly Award and was nominated for a Webby Award. She is a recipient of Refinery29's Shatterbox Anthology grant, which funds short films from emerging female filmmakers. Shatterbox is supported by Women at Sundance and Killer Films.

Her most recent short film, "Drifters", has screened at New Orleans Film Festival (Special Jury Award), NewFilmmakers NY, the BAFTA-recognized Aesthetica Short Film Festival (Best Experimental Short), and Brooklyn’s Northside Film Festival. It was also a staff pick on Vimeo’s experimental Deep Vimeo channel and indie filmmaker Kentucker Audley’s NoBudge.com. "Drifters", along with Anu’s other work, was recently profiled in France’s biennial art magazine, CineWomen Cahiers.

Anu graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Her senior thesis film, "Figs", was a Student Academy Award Semifinalist, an NYU Wasserman Finalist, and a National Board of Review Grant Finalist. "Figs" has screened at Italy’s Torino Film Festival, New Orleans Film Festival, and the Directors Guild of America.

Anu is slated to direct two feature films in 2017: Little Beauties, starring Aya Cash (FX's You're The Worst) and We Strangers (supported by New York's Independent Film Project).
